Nobody saw the pandemic coming. When coronavirus suddenly showed up to change our lives completely, it also played the role of a devil and put a strong pause on our well-laid travel plans and meticulously curated bucket list for 2021. Now years into the pandemic infested world, slowly and steadily people have learned to live with it, in fact, even make peace with it. And fortunately, most destinations in India have also opened up to tourists for a much-deserved holiday. After all, months of self-isolation hasn’t been easy for anyone, and to take their minds off the pandemic agitation, now more than ever, people are ready to travel again, restart again, of course keeping in mind all the necessary precautions and safety measures to stay safe.

So if you have been planning a holiday anytime soon, here’s the covid-intel to make it covid-proof in the “new normal”–

1. Do your research well

Before you look at flight tickets or hotel rooms, check if you are allowed to visit the destination. Although this may sound like a lot of work, it isn’t as complicated as it sounds. You can check Savaari’s social media handles to know which places are open and safe to travel to. Alternatively, search for one of the high-end hotels in the city, give them a call, and inquire about the on-ground information and SOPs. Once you have decided on a destination, you can then proceed to check what their quarantine guidelines are unless you are happy to spend a fortnight indoors once you reach. Always choose a destination that would not need you to go under quarantine after your return as well.

2. Not the best time to follow the crowd

No matter what type of holiday you are thinking of, it is best to avoid crowded destinations. Social distancing is just as important now as it was 9 months ago. In 2022, keep your eyes open to laid-back beaches, lesser-known hill towns, eco-friendly resorts, or even wellness centers that follow strict social distancing norms. Look for places where you can take long walks through stupendous scenery, but avoid humans at all costs. You do not want to ruin your holiday with a sudden COVID paranoia.

3. Hit the road

If the destination you are dreaming of is a few hundred kilometers from home, then we recommend you hit the road. It is safer and more convenient than air travel at the moment. In fact, if you are traveling with a small group, rent a van and hit the road to enjoy a fun road trip with friends or family. Some other benefits of a road trip are that you do not travel with strangers and you can add as many pit stops along the way as you want.

4. The joy of simples sejours

It is important to take it slow and easy. Stay put and immerse yourself in one place, at least for now! As much as it helps you relax and delve deeper into one place, it also helps you avoid additional journeys, flights, or public transport where the risk of infections is always at a high!

5. Stay where you feel safe

Choose an accommodation that helps you feel safe. It could be a safely contained villa or a private island on rent, or a cozy homestay in a remote corner of a hill town. Most hotels and resorts now offer extensive deep cleaning and socially distanced dining and entertainment, and many have contact-free check-in. When choosing a stay, do your bit of the homework. Call up their help desk, ask how they disinfect rooms, and offer room service. Also now more than ever hotels will be more than happy to offer you comprehensive transparency of their disinfection and sanitization hygiene.

6. Find newer ways to connect

Of course, walking up to locals and striking up a conversation in covid times will be frowned upon. But how about smiling through your eyes more often, listening to local music while you are there, or even reading books written by native authors will go a long way to help you connect with the place you are exploring behind a mask.

Tell us in the comments section what are your Covid proof ways of combating a pandemic while traveling. We would love to add your suggestions to our blog.

Stay safe. Travel Responsibly.
